Why get a vaccine?Get a vaccine to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. COVID-19 vaccines are effective at preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness and death. COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of people spreading COVID-19. Medical experts carefully tested the vaccines among thousands of adults with diverse backgrounds. Find a vaccine location near you COVID-19 vaccines are free and available to anyone who wants one, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status.[1] There are three easy ways to find a nearby location where you can get the COVID-19 vaccine: •Search vaccines.gov (vacunas.gov). •Text your zip code to 438829.
•Call 1-800-232-0233.
What to expect
You may have side effects after vaccination. These are normal and should go away in a few days. It typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19. You are not fully vaccinated until 2 weeks after the 2nd dose of a two-dose vaccine or two weeks after a one-dose vaccine. Some people who have been fully vaccinated can resume activities without wearing a mask or social distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.[2] If you have a condition or are taking medications that weaken your immune system, you may NOT be fully protected even after you are fully vaccinated. Talk to your healthcare provider about how to continue protecting yourself. Even after vaccination, you may need to continue taking all precautions (wearing a mask, staying 6 feet apart from others, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces). You should still watch out for symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you’ve been around someone who is sick. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested and stay home and away from others.[3]
