We use the word 'work' quite frequently in our day to day life. After studying or doing your homework you often say you have worked a lot! however, in physics work is said to be done when force applied on an object displaces the object in the direction of of the force. Activities such as reading, thinking or studying there is no displacement or change of position involved so no work is done when you are studying. when you pick up a book from a table there is a changing position of the book because of the force applied by your hand so what is being done there drawing water from a well, taking a ball and climbing up a hill are some more example of work being done when you run you work when you run you use the energy in your body after a while you start feeling tired as your energy gets used up it means that when you have more energy you can walk more and when you have less energy your ability to do work gets reduced. energy is defined as the ability to do work.
